About Us |
The “Christian Colportage Association”
was founded in 1874 to enable people who had little opportunity to visit church,
because of working hours being so long, to have and read Christian literature. The
original ‘colporteurs’ took tracts, leaflets and scripture portions to many houses,
visiting mainly ‘below stairs’ employees in service.
The organisation has changed through the years and until recently known as Home
Evangelism, we are now known as “Outreach UK” – we no longer sell literature,
but we do give a great deal away still. We still visit houses – but to share not
only the ‘good news’ of the Christian faith, but the work of the local church.
We no longer have ‘colporteurs’ – but we do have both staff and voluntary ‘evangelists’
who visit homes, shops, senior citizen’s clubs, businesses, markets, schools and
many other places, taking the time to speak and share of their faith with anyone
interested enough to ask questions. They also have opportunity to listen to peoples
concerns about illness, loneliness, overwork, finance and many other ‘life’ problems.
Our aim is to take Jesus Christ out into the world through our words and actions,
pointing people to the saving, redeeming, loving Saviour and introducing them to
the ‘family’ of Christian people in their local church.
We encourage Christians to be active in evangelism and hold training sessions for
churches and individuals. We are a fully registered charity and a member of the
Evangelical Alliance.
